Pickering

Home to one of the largest urban parks in North America, Pickering is comprised of rural hamlets and a humble array of businesses, with plans for further development in the future. A fast growing community with enough room to welcome even more residents, Pickering is quickly developing into a strong, diverse neighbourhood. As a predominantly residential neighbourhood, Pickering is home to mostly mature working professionals with families.

Pickering was founded in the late 1700s by British colonists, many of whom began working in the agricultural sector. As this industry decreased over the next century, many residents left Pickering for other developing areas in Toronto. However, as the city became more crowded in recent years, Pickering has seen an untick in new residents seeking a more relaxed and quiet neighbourhood. This growth has spurred new development in both residential and commercial spaces, which is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

Local Businesses
and Venues

As a residential neighbourhood, there are currently a limited variety of businesses in Pickering. However, residents have no trouble finding items and services for their daily needs. As with all neighbourhoods, some areas have a higher concentration of shops than others, such as Nautical Village. In Nautical Village you will find entertainment, a boardwalk, restaurants, businesses, and an art gallery. If you still want a bit more variety, Pickering is well positioned to give you easy access to other Toronto business areas.

As a former agricultural area, Pickering preserves many features from this period of its development. You can learn about this neighbourhood’s history through sites such as the Pickering Museum Village. Pickering also celebrates its residents through events such as Culture Days, which are held every year in September.
